7th/8th PACIFIC NORTHWEST HISTORY FIELD TRIP
On Thursday, April 23rd, our 7th/8th grade students boarded a charter bus and traveled down the Gorge with Mrs. Gass and chaperones Mrs. Brown, Mr. Bailie, and Mr. Piper to Seaside, Oregon. The trip was the culmination of their studies in Pacific Northwest History, and included stops at Bonneville Dam, where they toured Power House 2 and learned about efforts to protect salmon runs; Oregon’s Heritage Tree, which showed the majesty of His creation; Fort Clatsop, where they learned how Lewis and Clark’s Discovery Corps spent their last winter together; Camp 18, where they enjoyed a hearty breakfast, visited its memorial for fallen loggers, and looked at logging equipment; and Multnomah Falls, where His handiwork was again on display. In between these stops, our travelers enjoyed playing together—on the bus, on the beach, in the pool, and in the shops and arcade in downtown Seaside. Mrs. Henning joined the journey, but missed out on ice cream at the falls on Saturday—she remained behind for an administrator’s conference on Monday. The trip was one none of them will forget, and not just because of the journals and work Mrs. G assigned…it’s because of the connections made: with each other, with lessons learned, and with the God who made us all.
HIGH SCHOOL RETREAT
Each year the high school students go off campus for two overnights at the Kiwanis Lodge on Mill Creek outside of Walla Walla. This is a culminating time following Spiritual Emphasis Week. It is a time of developing and strengthening the bond of community between our high school students and teaching staff, while encouraging a sense of loyalty to and love for Kingspoint Christian School.
A special speaker joins us each year to encourage our students to walk faithfully with Christ and to grow as individuals. We also have some great times together playing games, visiting the corn maze and singing around the campfire.
